Suchat Jangtanong’s Background before his work is wellknow. Since I was 14 years old, I began my lifelong career by becoming to the third generation in my family as “Knifemaker”. I learned the trade, help my father and grandfather in the knife making our family business in the province of Uthai Thani in Thailand. To continue learning, I attended technical school and after graduating in 1982, worked as an apprentice with a team knife making. It was there where I realize of my ability to carve pearl shell. In 1984, I opened my own workshop. I carry on the tradition of handcrafting each of my knives using only the most basic equipment. I think the beauty of “knife making and cutlery” is being able to feel what you are doing and have a real vision of knife that you create. I make folders with liner lock, as it is my favorite type, with carved and pearl inlay for handle, but it is very hard to work with because of cracking at the slightest mistake. For this reason, the number of knives that I make is very limited and cost more higher since the error can be happen during making. Because most of my knives go in the collections use a lot of Mosaic Damascus (created by welknow damascus maker such as Robert Calcinore, Robert Eggerring). Also sometime I do use D2 or ATS-34 because it is strong and good for everyday use. I can also able to make other lock type like balisongs, lock back to give a variety of my work. Just an awesome piece from reese.. The flipper bar/trigger is titanium the frame is titanium w/orange peel finish. The back spacer/ring is ss as is the lock bar stabilizer… Pocket clip is timascus. The hot blued Damascus blade is made from brad vise Damascus and measures 3.5 inches from tip to upper corner of frame 3 inches tip to lower corner of frame. 7.5 inches overall 5.5 inches closed length… The knife remains in like new/unused condition there are 3 tiny spots on the reverse side of blade where the bluing didn’t take and show silver in color.. These are following in the Damascus pattern and are not caused from any trauma as this is how the knife was originally deliveredthe pics make them look more pronounced than they are as it is a negligible flaw in my opinion. The blade is very sharp the lock up is rock solid the action is buttery smooth as this runs on bearings and flips open fast.. it’s an incredible piece that surely will not disappoint.
